Blogging is a critical component to building your credibility online

Author Sandra N PeoplesSo it has been a while since I have actually blogged about writing and business and things of that nature. I don’t know if it was because I was getting burned out, bored; not really sure. But one thing is certain: I almost forgot how important a blog is to anyone who is serious about building credibility online.

I started blogging in 2008, and I used to have a set schedule where I treated my blog as an important part of my marketing strategy (which you should do too if you are serious about getting results). I blogged every morning at 6 am. But then as time wore on, and I started seeing results from my blogging, I got lazy and relaxed. My focus was all over the place and wasn’t very clear at all. The audience that I had built suddenly started to dwindle because I started to talk about everything else except books, writing, and how this whole industry works business wise.

What I learned was that I had lost focus of what the purpose of a blog really is in the first place. The purpose of your blog is not make money; it’s main purpose is to educate your audience, help them get to know about you and the products and services that you offer, and help them make the decision on whether or not they should become a customer or client of yours.

There are so many people who teach that you can make money blogging; which you can. But the money does not come from blogging in and of itself; it comes as a result of blogging. That may seem a little confusing, but, once you catch on to it, you will understand the concept a lot better.

I am making a commitment to get back to building my marketing platform, which is my blog. Blogging allows you to share your knowledge and expertise with the world. If you are serious about growing your business and your platform, selling more books, or whatever it is you want to do, you need to blog. And you need to do it on a consistent basis. So, are you up for the challenge? Are you going to make a commitment to blog? I hope that you will add this powerful marketing strategy to your arsenal in the coming year.

Love Is In The Air; But Beware

a-writer-and-her-blog Well, it’s Fall, my favorite time of the year. I love Fall because it is also the time of year when new romances seem to spark. And I am a romance fanatic. When the weather changes, who doesn’t want something warm (and possibly muscular) to snuggle up to?  I ain’t even gonna lie, I do. Hell, being a single woman in the colder months can be a tempting time to crawl into the arms of an old ‘boo-thang’, or even a new ‘bae’.

I was watching a talk show the other day, and the host was talking about how to tell if a man is really into you, or, if he is just really into what’s between your legs. Sometimes, honestly, it can be very hard to tell. I mean, when a handsome man comes along and tells us everything we want to hear, it can be difficult to know if he’s really into us or not.

So here is my version of how to tell is a man is really into you, or, if he is just trying to ‘get the draws dawg’ (RIP Tommy Ford).

I think that if a man is really into you, your first date will not be at your house or his. Let’s get real. If it’s just you and him alone, and both of you haven’t had any in months, years, or however long it’s been, a scene on the television, or the right kind of eye contact can easily spark a flame. And once those flames get sparked, it’s really hard to just be like, ‘okay, let’s stop.’ So it is best not to put yourself in that situation.

I like the thought of going on a date being that we are actually going to go somewhere. To me it just seems like if we go to your house, or you come to mine, things are going to go to a level that neither one of us may be prepared for. So, to avoid that, go on a date to the movies, out to dinner, bowling; something fun. If he never wants to be seen in public with you, or, if his idea of a date is to just ‘Netflix and Chill’, then yeah, he just wants your cookies.

Publishing Your Own Book Does Not Have To Be Hard At All

Self-Publishing a book can be a very scary task; especially for a new author.

With so many companies and independent professionals out there, it can be rather intimidating to try and navigate its waters alone.

It is for this reason, the Self-Publishing Basics book was written.

There are a few rules to follow when venturing into the realm of publishing on your own. It is good to know what steps to take to avoid the many pitfalls that await an unsuspecting new author.

It is important to do your research when it comes to putting your own book up for publication.

Even though I felt the story was a good one, it wasn’t developed properly and it showed.

It is also important to research your title. My first book shared the same title as a very successful author at the time, and it was hard to convince people that I hadn’t written my book under a pen name. You don’t want your book to share the same title as a book that is popular in its genre because it will only add to the competition for book sales.

3 Ways To Get New Clients Online

Is Finding Clients Online For Your Business Overwhelming?

For an entrepreneur, finding clients  online can be a very daunting task.

You don’t have a sales team in place to go out and recruit clients for you like the big companies do.

Yet, you know that you need to have a consistent flow of clients in order to make enough money to grow your business and create a sustainable income for yourself.

In this post. you are going to learn three ways that you can get new clients for your business.

Blog. Blogging can be an excellent way to get your ideal clients to stand up and take notice of what it is that your company does. In order for a blog to be successful, you have to keep it updated regularly with good, high-quality content that can actually help to educate your potential client about the services that your company provides.

If you want your blog to serve its purpose, it is important to know the kinds of problems your client is looking to solve, then write an article that speaks to their problem and offers a solution. Having articles that solve problems will help to position you as the expert in your field of expertise, and in turn, could convert the prospect to a paying client.

Get Social. Social Media is not evil, especially if you know how to use it correctly. I look at social media as a big networking event that you can attend any time of the day or night and connect with people in your chosen field. You can establish connections that could propel your business to the place you really want it to be in. 

If your social media followers include most family and friends, it is time to rethink your circle of influence. Do some research to find out who the players are in your field, and start to connect with those people. You can’t expect your family and friends to want to do business with you, so start looking for the kinds of people who do, and go where they hang out online.

Don’t sign up for networks just because it may be what’s popular at the moment. Go with the networks you feel comfortable with and stick with those.

Host Virtual Events. Teleseminars and webinars are some of the easiest ways to get your message in front of your potential clients and customers. They are convenient because your prospect does not have to travel to get to the destination, and you can broadcast your message to hundreds and thousands of people at once without spending money to rent a conference room.

In order for a virtual event to work, you have to plan it like you would a live event. You have to invite people, then, when you get them to attend, you have to make the event exciting for them.  

A few other helpful tips for hosting a great virtual event:

  • Be sure to keep some water on hand. Depending on how long your virtual event will last, your mouth may get dry. Taking a few pauses for a sip of water will help keep your throat lubricated and your voice sounding natural.
  • Have handouts for your attendees to download beforehand. The handouts will encourage participation.
  • Allow questions. An interactive event is a fun event. If your prospect likes your delivery style, they may feel encouraged to work with you, or buy from you.

It Really Is About Mindset

The Important Role Mindset Plays In Your Life.


Mindset is something you hear a lot about in the personal development realm.

“Change your thinking, change your life.”

And it is so true.

Mindset is so important.

If you don’t really believe in what you’re doing, that you can actually find success doing it, then you are wasting your time.

Success is never going to come to you if you don’t believe that you can truly have success.

And that kind of sucks.

To think that you can be trying so many different things, wondering why nothing is working, when the whole time it’s your mind that’s all messed up.

Just because others around you may have never experienced the kind of success that you want, does not mean that you will never have it.

If those people did not really believe that the things they were working so hard for was truly within their reach, then that explains why success never came to them.

YOU must believe.

There is no way around it.

Your mind has to see your future before you can ever embrace it.

Mindset is something that many entrepreneurs struggle with on a daily basis.

We know what we want; but to some of it, what we want seems so far out of reach.

It almost feels unreal that we can have something like the things that we want.

For some, it may be a nice home.

For others, a nice car.

Or, to be able to finally be debt free.

You can have that.

But, you have to see it, believe it, and then, you have to act.

It amazes me that such a simple principle is so hard for many to grasp.

If you live in the worst neighborhood now, do you really believe that you can live in your dream neighborhood?

Can you literally picture yourself walking through the home of your dreams?

Have you even taken a tour?


In order to experience true success, you have got to clean up your mind.

And, it will not happen overnight.

In fact, fixing your mindset takes discipline and practice.

I talk about mindset in my book, Break Free: How To Overcome Your Fears And Live The Life Of Your Dreams.

I was inspired to write the book almost ten years ago.

I was inspired to write the book because it had been revealed to me that there are so many people who have given up on their dreams because they don’t believe that they can come true.

I remember crying as I penned the book because I had allowed some of my own dreams to die because I didn’t believe that I could truly have the life that I wanted.

It seemed as if it was taking so long to get to the place where I really wanted to be, and, I gave up.

I quit.

My mind told me that I wasn’t as good as the next guy.

That I should settle for just being a good lil‘ employee and keep going to work for someone else.

That I wasn’t cut out for entrepreneurship.

My mind was conditioned to think that real success only came to certain people; and I wasn’t one of them.

It wasn’t until I stumbled upon a Youtube video by a young man named James Jordan, that I really started to realize how horrible my mindset had become.

James is in the internet marketing arena and has so many videos online about products and services.

But  the video I watched really made me think about some things that I had been doing.

I even had the privilege to talk with James on the phone, and some of the things he said to me during our conversation let me know that there were still lots of things mindset wise that I was doing wrong.

I wasn’t succeeding like I wanted to because I didn’t truly see myself doing so.

Your mindset has to be trained.

You have to see, hear and speak what you want daily.

We as humans are conditioned to focus on what we don’t want unknowingly.

“I don’t want to be fat.”

“I don’t want to be broke.”

Did you know that knowingly acknowledging what you don’t want actually attracts those things to you?

Think about it.

How To Work From Home Without Losing Your Sanity

 Automation in your business can keep stress at a minimum.


Running a home-based business does not come without its share of stress.

Depending on what you do from your home office, you might find

yourself juggling many tasks at any given time.

This ‘juggling many tasks’ is what causes many home-based entrepreneurs to stress out and even quit in their entrepreneurial journey.

The key to working less is automation.

Using automated tools in your business can help to keep you from experiencing burnout from trying to do so much yourself.

In this article I am going to share with you a few ways that you can use automation in your home-based business to make things run much smoother, and keep you from losing your sanity.

The number one thing that should be automated is your lead generation process. If you have a mechanism in place to attract the information of people interested in your business, and a way to follow up with them without actually having to follow up with each individual person, you will start to notice some free time.

Of course, most online lead generation is done with an email autoresponder program. But, depending on the website platform you use, you can actually have people schedule a time to talk with you, right from your website. They can see when you have available time slots to talk with them, send you an email and set up an appointment.

I use a WordPress plugin called Appointy to help me book consultations and discovery calls, and the like. Appointy is free to use for up to 5 services, 1 staff member and unlimited bookings.

So, say for example you are a photographer, you could use a scheduling software such as this one to have clients schedule shootings with you, book you for weddings and other events, and the list goes on.

Freelance writers could use this to have clients schedule interviews for projects, schedule coaching sessions, and so on. There are many possibilities.

Another thing you may want to consider automating is your follow up process.

Once someone has purchased from you, you should not leave it at that.

You should follow up, make sure they were satisfied with your services, or, that they were able to access their download, or use your product correctly.

All of this can be set up in your email marketing software and activated upon payment. That way, once the payment is received, the emails automatically start, and you don’t have to individually respond to each person.

Do you feel that headache sort of easing up now?

One other thing that automation may help with is your social media marketing.

We in the online business arena, know that we have to be active on social media.

But it is easy to get lost in all of the tweets and posts and shares and tags.

One way that I have found that makes it easy to broadcast to social media is by using a tool called Hootsuite.

Hootsuite allows you to schedule posts to go out to social media.

You can schedule your posts for the week, and even the month.

I have found that a good mix of automated posts and live posts offer more opportunities for active engagement. And, it frees you up from being chained to a computer all day long.

I also have my blog posts set up to automatically populate my Facebook page and my Twitter account once they are published. This helps with the syndication of your blog posts.

How To Increase Sales With Social Media

How To Use Social Media To Generate Targeted Leads For Your Business

It seems as if the whole world is on social media these days.

You can post, tweet, tag and share pieces of your life with billions of people at the touch of a button.

But how do you as an author or entrepreneur use social media to your advantage without coming across as an annoying sales person?

If you are a business person on social media, there is a way that you can use this powerful platform to connect with the types of people you want to connect with, who are eager to connect with you as well.

These people will be more willing to buy something from you as well, but you have to know the proper way to use social media so that you are not sounding like a ‘spam artist’, and you are able to grow a genuine following of people who honestly and sincerely want to be connected to you.

I love social media.

But not for the reasons most do.

I don’t use social media to make friends per se; I use it to connect with people who may be interested in what I have to offer, which is information.

I get lots of friends requests, and before I accept them, I look at their posts.

If they are always complaining about their job, I accept their request.

If they are always posting about their opportunity, I accept their request.

If they are always posting about their businesses, I accept their request.

Basically, I look for people who have problems that I know how to solve, and when they friend request me, I gladly accept them.

I then inbox them to introduce myself to them and learn more about them.

See, in internet marketing, it is all about relationships, and people may not want to join your opportunity, buy your book, or anything else the first time they meet you.

It takes a little time.

If I don’t know you, I am not giving you my money; but if you and I talk, then I may be interested in what you’re selling, but I would at least like to hear from you first in a non-salesy manner.

Some people may take a while to build the relationship with, but you treat them in the same way you would anyone you are trying to get to know.

After I talk with them for a while, I then ask them a few questions to find their pain points.

Once I have found those, I look to see if they can benefit from any of the products I have, or any of the business opportunities that I may be promoting at the time.

If their responses are not what I want at the time, I may follow up with them, but I don’t pressure them.

I want people who are looking for what I have, so there is no need to waste time trying to convince someone who does not want to be convinced.

I also browse through groups on Facebook  looking for people who are looking for opportunities. I send them a friend request, chop it up with them a bit to see where they are and how serious they are and then, decide whether to continue the convo or move on.

I also look for people on Twitter, and Instagram by using certain hashtags.

The key here is to look for people who are making it known that they are looking for an opportunity, and then introduce yourself.

If you know that what you are selling is a good fit for this person, then you can share your link to your lead capture page.

Not an opportunity page; your lead capture page.

If the person is interested in what you are doing or selling but not yet ready to transition into your business, at least you have them as a lead, and you can now share things with them concerning your opportunity, your business, your services, etc.

You have to capture them first, then use your emails to build the relationship to convert them from a lead to a customer.

Has It Really Been That Long?

I cannot believe that it has been two months since I last posted on my blog!

Shame on me.

As much as I preach the importance of blogging consistently, I guess I need to be a better example.

Well, I have been super busy with my clients blogs, writing books and articles, and teaching.

My blog has sort of taken a back seat to my business.

Over the past few months though, I have seen that it takes a lot to run a business, get the clients, and then commit to doing to work that you have been hired to do.
