Love Is In The Air; But Beware

a-writer-and-her-blog Well, it’s Fall, my favorite time of the year. I love Fall because it is also the time of year when new romances seem to spark. And I am a romance fanatic. When the weather changes, who doesn’t want something warm (and possibly muscular) to snuggle up to?  I ain’t even gonna lie, I do. Hell, being a single woman in the colder months can be a tempting time to crawl into the arms of an old ‘boo-thang’, or even a new ‘bae’.

I was watching a talk show the other day, and the host was talking about how to tell if a man is really into you, or, if he is just really into what’s between your legs. Sometimes, honestly, it can be very hard to tell. I mean, when a handsome man comes along and tells us everything we want to hear, it can be difficult to know if he’s really into us or not.

So here is my version of how to tell is a man is really into you, or, if he is just trying to ‘get the draws dawg’ (RIP Tommy Ford).

I think that if a man is really into you, your first date will not be at your house or his. Let’s get real. If it’s just you and him alone, and both of you haven’t had any in months, years, or however long it’s been, a scene on the television, or the right kind of eye contact can easily spark a flame. And once those flames get sparked, it’s really hard to just be like, ‘okay, let’s stop.’ So it is best not to put yourself in that situation.

I like the thought of going on a date being that we are actually going to go somewhere. To me it just seems like if we go to your house, or you come to mine, things are going to go to a level that neither one of us may be prepared for. So, to avoid that, go on a date to the movies, out to dinner, bowling; something fun. If he never wants to be seen in public with you, or, if his idea of a date is to just ‘Netflix and Chill’, then yeah, he just wants your cookies.

What do you think? How can you tell if a man is truly into you or not?

Traffic Part 2:Paid Traffic

In this video lesson, we will cover paid traffic sources, and I will even share with you some ideas on finding paid traffic without spending a ton of money, or, flushing money down the toilet like most people find themselves doing when it comes to paid traffic.

Paying for traffic can be a very scary experience because you don’t know what the results will be until after the campaign is over.

And with Facebook ads, regardless of the result, you still have to pay. I don’t know about you, but to me, that’s some pretty scary stuff.

Traffic Generation For Bloggers Part I: Free Traffic

MODULE 3

In this module, we will cover traffic sources.

Traffic is crucial to any website or blog; and lack thereof means that the online property will have to shut down: literally.

Today’s video is an introduction to free traffic.

Be sure to complete the homework assignment as well.

See you in the next video.

Module 2 Recap, Theme Customization, and Blog Syndication Basics

So, this module was jam packed with information.

Quite a bit of information for a beginner’s blogging course.

In today’s lesson, we will do a brief recap of what was covered so far in the course, as well as going over the basics of customizing a free WordPress theme.

You will learn where the pros go for high-resolution free images to use for their blogs and promotional posts so that you can avoid possibly being sued for using a picture that infringes on someone’s copyright.

You will also learn about syndication for bloggers.

Syndication simply means getting your content in front of the eyes of others.

There are three sites you can use to help syndicate your content.

The links are in the homework section.

There are other ways you can get the word out about your blog as well, which we will get into in the next module.

As always, if you have any questions, you can email me at coachsand@gmail.com.

Take care,

How To Set Up Your Blog

Think of your blog as your new office; your online office.

I say that because as a blogger, your blog will be run from the backend.

You have to login in order to access the control panel of your blog.

You get to change the look and feel of your new online office by the use of themes and plugins.

Themes are what we see when we first visit a WordPress built site. Themes can do a lot of things for us, especially with the help of plugins.

Plugins are what give our site the functionality and ability to do specific tasks, like allow us to take payments from our website, or, help us to build a mailing list.

Plugins do a lot of the behind the scenes work for us, and help aid in the automation of many of the tasks on our site.

We’ll talk more on plugins a little later in the course. But for now there is one plugin that you need to download. That is the Yoast SEO Plugin. This plugin helps you to write posts that are not only search engine optimized, but also, people friendly. A rule of thumb when writing blog posts is that we write for people, and not for the search engines. So, while we want to use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) in our posts, we don’t want to go keyword crazy. 2-3 times within the text, once in title and first paragraph should be good use of the term you want to eventually rank for.

The videos you are going to see today deal with how to access your blog’s back office, as well as how to find and install a theme. Since you are just starting out, it is good to start with a free theme and upgrade later to a paid theme.

I use Thrive Themes.

Thrive Themes is a premium WordPress theme, which simply means that you have to pay for it. A premium theme will usually come with a license. A license means that you will be able to use it either on one site, or multiple sites, depending on what you pay.

Once you have your theme, the next thing you are going to want to do is set up the pages that will appear on your site.

The main pages that you will need for your blog starting out are:

  • Home
  • About Me
  • Blog
  • Contact

Now of course, as your blog grows, these pages will change.

Be sure to watch the videos and as always if you have any questions, feel free to email me at coachsand@gmail.com

Until next time,

Getting Your Blog Up And Running

MODULE 2

LESSON 1

In this module, we will be covering the steps you need to take in order to get your blog up and running.

The steps we will cover are:

  • How to purchase your domain name
  • How to purchase hosting
  • How to install WordPress on your blog
  • How to access the back office for your blog
  • How to choose a good theme for your blog
  • What are plugins, and which ones are recommended for your blog

In this lesson, we will focus on purchasing our domain name and hosting.

The first and most important step is to purchase the domain name for your blog.

If you have never purchased your own domain name before, I am going to walk you through the steps to purchasing your own domain name.

I am also going to walk you through the steps to purchasing your hosting for your blog, and for purchasing the domain name.

Because I am an affiliate of hostgator.com, I am paid a commission every time I send them a new customer. And because you are students of mine, I have arranged for you to get your first month of hosting with them for a penny. That’s right, just one cent. To get the hosting for one cent, click the banner below.

The link in the homework and assignment section allows for you to get a discount on your domain name as well.

You are going to learn how to install WordPress.org on your blog using the Hostgator one click install. The steps are listed in video on how to install it. If you would like help with installing, you can email your login information to me at coachsand@gmail.com and I will install it for you for free as a student in my course.

Keyword Research Basics Part 2

This module has focused a lot on keyword research because it is one of the most important pieces to having and running a profitable blog.

Today’s video goes a little deeper into explaining the three step process to finding a great niche.

Purchasing A Domain Name

Greetings and welcome to the third lesson in this, the first module of Ignite My Blog.

By now, we have covered a lot of ground when it comes to the research component of starting a blog.

Researching is very important, and lack thereof is the reason why so many blogs fail and never make their owners any money in the long run.

Now, you may be skeptical at this point on what name you should choose for your site. Maybe you have even made a list of names, but just aren’t sure of whether or not you should go with any of the names on your list.

So, before you invest any money in a domain name, I would like to go over your list with you to see what you have come up with.

For this assignment, I want you to send me in an email, the list of ideas you have for your main topic, as well as the names you are thinking of using for your blog. I want to be sure that you are on the right path.  You can either send the assignment as an attachment, or, just type directly in the email. My email address is coachsand@gmail.com.

Tomorrow we will cover how to purchase a domain name, install the blogging software and the basics of getting our blog set up.

Until then, take care. If you’re getting overwhelmed, email me at coachsand@gmail.com.

CHOOSING A DOMAIN NAME

WELCOME TO DAY 2

BY NOW YOU SHOULD HAVE MADE A LIST OF KEYWORD IDEAS FOR YOUR BLOG.

KEYWORDS ARE BASICALLY TOPICS THAT MAKE UP THE FRAMEWORK OF THE CONTENT WE WILL CREATE FOR OUR SITE.

IN ORDER FOR A BLOG OR WEBSITE TO BE PROFITABLE, IT HAS TO BE BASED AROUND WORDS OR TOPICS THAT PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY SEARCHING FOR ONLINE. YOUR JOB IS TO FIND A NICHE OR A TOPIC, THAT IS GETTING A GOOD AMOUNT OF SEARCHES ONLINE, BUT NOT SO MANY THAT IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPETE IN THE CATEGORY. TOO MUCH COMPETITION MAKES IT HARD FOR YOU TO MAKE A SALE.

A GOOD NICHE IS ONE THAT HAS 100,000 OR LESS SEARCH RESULTS ON GOOGLE.

ONE THING TO NOTE, IN THE VIDEO FROM YESTERDAY ON USING KEYWORDSPY.COM, I SAID TO TYPE YOUR SEARCH PHRASE IN PARENTHESIS; I MEANT TYPE THE SEARCH IN QUOTATIONS, LIKE THIS “GREEN TEA SMOOTHIES”.

SO, START WITH GOOGLE.

WITH GOOGLE ADWORDS, YOU WILL HAVE TO SET UP AN ACCOUNT.

ONCE YOU SET UP THE ACCOUNT, THEY WILL ASK YOU FOR A CREDIT CARD; HOWEVER, DON’T PANIC, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY MONEY. I REPEAT, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY ANY MONEY. FOR NOW, WE ARE ONLY USING GOOGLE FOR RESEARCH PURPOSES.

I MYSELF PREFER TO USE KEYWORDSPY.COM OVER GOOGLE ADWORDS.

WHEN WE THINK OF A NICHE, A NICHE IS A VERY SPECIFIC AUDIENCE THAT WE WANT TO PROMOTE OUR PRODUCTS TO, AND, WHO WE WANT TO WRITE OUR CONTENT FOR.

YOU FIND A NICHE, THEN, YOU FIND KEYWORDS, OR TOPICS, THAT HELP PROMOTE YOUR CHOSEN NICHE.

FOR INSTANCE, BACK TO THE GREEN TEA SMOOTHIES.

MORE THAN LIKELY, SOMEONE LOOKING FOR THOSE WOULD BE IN THE HEALTH & WELLNESS NICHE. THEY ARE LOOKING FOR WAYS TO STAY HEALTHY, MAYBE LOSE WEIGHT, ETC.

TODAY’S TRAINING VIDEO WILL SHOW YOU THREE STEPS TO PROFITABLE KEYWORD RESEARCH.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, EMAIL ME AT COACHSAND@GMAIL.COM.
